Hot or Not?
NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Hey guys,

I'm finally a happy owner of a NARS foundation - the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.

Since NARS products are no more available in Germany since 2010, I waited a long time until I've finally had the chance to buy one of them in store. Considering the price, I didn't want to ordner anything from the internet without haven't tried it first on myself.

I went to Sephora in New York City and wanted to buy the NARS Sheer Glow foundation because I've heard and read so many good things, especially about its covering and its lasting time.
Finally, after discussing a little bit with a shop assisstant there about my skin type and which foundation would be good for me, I decided to pick up the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.
She recommended me to take this one because my skin is a type of mixture between dry and oily, whereas the NARS Sheer Glow foundation would be better for dry skin.
To cut a long story short, here is my review:

What NARS says at their homepage(*):

Highly pigmented and perfectly balanced, this breakthrough formula builds and blends effortlessly with just one drop—the result of exclusive innovation uniquely designed to deliver long-wearing full coverage, weightlessly. Shake, pump and blend in sections for complete coverage that's completely natural looking.
Weightless Long-wear Technology delivers up to 16 hours of wear, while always feeling light-as-air. Featuring advanced flexible polymers and first-to-market treated pigments.
Even Tone Technology is designed to instantly neutralize redness and dullness, while working long-term to reduce the appearance of discoloration for more even, uniform skin.

There are 20 shades available, six light ones, five medium ones, five medium-dark ones and four dark ones. I've chosen the shade Light 5 - Fiji.
This is 48 USD for a 30 ml bottle and it has a pump mechanism to distribute the product.
For application, shake the bottle well before you start bulding up the coverage.

My opinion on the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Honestly, I have to say that I didn't get along well with the application as I've used the foundation for the first time. The consistence is really fluid and I've put way to much of the product onto my face because I couldn't believe the fact that just 'one drop' of the product should be enough for the first layer of coverage. This situation ended that I've removed all the stuff from my face, starting again. :-D

Now, since I've used the NARS foundation several times I can say, that there is really just the tiniest amount necessary to give your face a coverage. If you like to have more coverage, you can build up several layers one after the other.

It's true that the foundation doesn't feel heavy at all on the skin. It has a good coverage and lets your skin look even and flawless, what's quite helpful if you have any irritations that you want to cover.
Redness of your skin is covered by green pigments that the foundation contains.
Using the foundation I do not necessarily need a extra concealer. This job is taken by the foundation itself! :)
Gold pigments help to let your skin look luminous, like the products name promises, without giving you a shiny finish as if your skin looks oily. It's a really natural luminous finish.
I cannot say if its true that the All Day Weightless Foundation doesn't work well for dry skin, like the shop assistant told me. I can only imagine that it's true because I don't have the feeling that the product moisturizes the skin. On the other side it doesn't make the skin dry neither. It feels like your skin has to be a good base that the foundation can work well. (I'm not sure if my english is good enough to express what I want to, but I hope you understand, sorry :-).)

Considering the price, I would have expected a better pump mechanism. Unfortunately, the product doesn't come out of the pump without remaining partly at the pump, giving the bottle a grubby look.

For application, I recommend a beauty blender to distribute the product in your face before you blend it in well with a brush. In case you build up your coverage with several layers, do really blend the product well in between these.

In conclusion, I'd rebuy the foundation. I like the even and natural finish that it gives to your skin. For me, it's important that the foundation doesn't feel like you have tons of makeup applied on your face. And this is exactley what the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation does.
Because it's my first high-end foundation I will not use it as an everyday base for my face makeup, but I'll use it for more special occasions.

If you are looking for a drugstore foundation having comparable charcteristics, I recommend the Maybelline Dream Wonder Nude Makeup on that I've written also a review.

What is your favorite foundation (NARS or any other brand)?
Do you like NARS products?

Kisses,
Van
